The Padres' affiliates displayed some pop on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough to prevent all four teams from losing.

Jake Higginbotham and Ron Marinaccio steadied El Paso after Jackson Wolf’s start, but El Paso fell despite Tirso Ornelas and Nate Mondou fueling rallies. In San Antonio, Jagger Haynes opened with three scoreless before Fernando Sanchez delivered two clean frames; Anthony Vilar homered. Fort Wayne got Jack Costello’s 10th and a late RBI from Lamar King Jr., while Bodi Rascon and Luis Germán kept it close. Lake Elsinore saw Alex McCoy and Jorge Quintana homer.

El Paso Falls In Salt Lake
    Box Score

After Salt Lake jumped ahead early, Tim Locastro ignited the fourth with a single, then reached second when Yonathan Perlaza got aboard on an error. Locastro stole third, Perlaza took second, and Tirso Ornelas pushed across a run with a groundout. In the fifth, Clay Dungan laid down a bunt single, stole second, and scored on a Marcos Castañon hit aided by a misplay. Nate Mondou kept El Paso moving in the seventh, lining a triple and scoring on Rodolfo Durán’s grounder. Luis Campusano and Ornelas strung together singles in the ninth, but the Bees closed it out.

Locastro went 2-for-4 and swiped a bag, while Mondou’s triple was his fourth of the season. Castañon, Campusano, Ornelas, Ripken Reyes, and Mondou each added a hit as El Paso finished with eight. The Chihuahuas also turned two double plays, and Dungan joined Locastro and Perlaza with a stolen base.

Jackson Wolf started for El Paso, working 3 2/3 innings with seven runs on six hits, three walks, and one strikeout. Jake Higginbotham followed and settled things down over 2 1/3 scoreless frames, allowing three hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Ron Marinaccio added a clean seventh with two strikeouts, and Francis Pena handled the eighth. Despite steady bullpen work, Salt Lake’s five-run fourth proved the difference, and the Bees’ early cushion held.

Missions Held To One Hit Against Corpus Christi
    Box Score

Anthony Vilar supplied San Antonio’s lone hit, launching a solo homer to right-center in the sixth, but the Missions fell 7-1 to Corpus Christi at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Vilar finished 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Kai Murphy drew a free pass and swiped second, which was almost all of the Missions’ offense on Wednesday night.

The Hooks broke a scoreless game in the fifth, turning a leadoff triple into a five-run frame on a string of hits, a walk, and an RBI groundout, with a throwing error also aiding the rally. San Antonio’s defense was charged with three errors on the night, and a passed ball came earlier in the third.

Corpus Christi tacked on two more in the seventh after a missed catch at first base opened the door, followed by a run-scoring double and a groundout that brought in another. San Antonio could not answer late and finished with two men left on base.

Missions starter Jagger Haynes set the tone early, working three scoreless innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Jared Kollar followed and was tagged for seven runs, four earned, over three, walking one and striking out two. Fernando Sanchez provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, delivering two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks.

Costello’s 10th Homer, Wells’ RBI, And King Jr. Lead TinCaps’ Night
    Box Score

A rain delay at LMCU Ballpark preceded a rough start for Fort Wayne, as West Michigan plated three in the first and three more in the second. The second inning turned when a fielding error extended the frame for the Whitecaps.

Jack Costello jump-started the TinCaps in the second, launching his 10th home run to left. In the fourth, Lamar King Jr. walked, Costello singled, and Sean Barnett drew a free pass to load the bases. Kai Roberts lifted a sacrifice fly to get Fort Wayne within striking distance. Roberts later walked in the sixth but was picked off and caught stealing at second.

Fort Wayne rallied in the seventh when Zach Evans walked, Luke Cantwell was hit by a pitch, and Kasen Wells punched an RBI single to left. In the ninth, Wells singled to center and King Jr. capped his night with a run-scoring double to center, trimming the deficit before the final out.

Costello finished 2-for-5 with the homer, an RBI, and a stolen base. Wells went 2-for-5 with an RBI, King Jr. was 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a walk, and Roberts added a hit, a walk, and an RBI. The TinCaps totaled seven hits.

Starter Clark Candiotti worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, four earned, with two walks and three strikeouts. Bodi Rascon followed with 2 1/3 innings of one-run relief, walking two and striking out three, and Luis Germán delivered two scoreless frames with two walks and two strikeouts.

McCoy And Quintana Go Deep, Not Enough In Big Loss To San Bernardino
    Box Score

Lake Elsinore fell 13-4 to Inland Empire. In the fifth, Jorge Quintana opened the scoring for Lake Elsinore with a solo home run. Ryan Wideman followed with a single, then stole second and third before scoring on Truitt Madonna’s groundout to trim the deficit.

The Storm kept pushing in the sixth. Dylan Grego lined a single, and Alex McCoy followed with a two-run homer, his sixth, to bring Lake Elsinore within two. Carlos Rodriguez added a double later in the frame. McCoy finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, Quintana went 1-for-4 with the homer, and Wideman went 1-for-2 with two steals and a run. Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a double, Ty Harvey drew two walks, and Bradley Frye added a hit as Lake Elsinore totaled seven.

On the mound, starter Kash Mayfield worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Cameron Nohos followed with 1 2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, with no walks and one strikeout. Clay Edmondson, Adam Conrad, Will Koger, and Justin DeCriscio also appeared. The infield turned a second-inning double play, Quintana to Dylan Grego to Madonna, to momentarily halt an Inland Empire rally, and Wideman’s two late-inning steals showcased the Storm’s aggressiveness, but the 66ers kept answering to pull away.
