El Paso struck first in the second when Nate Mondou ripped a double, then scored on Rodolfo Durán’s sharp single for a 1-0 lead. Tacoma answered in the third after a balk pushed two into scoring position, and a single put the Rainiers ahead to stay.
Miguel Cienfuegos started for the Chihuahuas and worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with three walks and one strikeout. Stephen Jones followed with 1 1/3 scoreless frames, and Manuel Castro turned in a clean eighth with one inning, zero runs, zero walks, and one strikeout. Ron Marinaccio handled the ninth for El Paso, tossing one inning with one walk and zero strikeouts.
El Paso’s best push came in the seventh. Luis Campusano and Mondou opened with singles to bring the Southwest University Park crowd to life, but the Rainiers cut down a runner at second on a pickoff, and a groundout ended the threat. In the field, the Chihuahuas flashed leather in the top of the inning when Ripken Reyes turned a 5-4-3 double play with Mondou and Tim Locastro to erase a leadoff single.
Mondou paced the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Durán went 1-for-3 with the team’s lone RBI. Campusano, Trenton Brooks, Tirso Ornelas, and Locastro each added a hit. El Paso also mounted a brief surge in the eighth on Locastro’s leadoff single, but Tacoma’s bullpen held, and the Rainiers closed out a 2-1 decision.

Rosario Homers Twice, TinCaps’ Push Falls Short Against Dayton

Eguy Rosario powered Fort Wayne’s offense, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI, but the TinCaps fell 7-5 to Dayton. He reached on a forceout in the first, then stole second, and he tied the game in the third with an RBI single after Victor Duarte walked, advanced on a wild pitch, and Kasen Wells moved him over. Jack Costello followed with a run-scoring single, and later swiped second, giving Fort Wayne a 2-1 lead.
Dayton answered with five in the fourth, using a string of extra-base hits, including a three-run homer, to surge ahead 6-2. The TinCaps fought back in the fifth when Wells legged out an infield hit and advanced on an error, and Rosario crushed a two-run shot to left. In the seventh, the designated hitter struck again with a solo blast to left to pull Fort Wayne within one, and Brendan Durfee doubled before the inning ended. The Dragons added insurance in the eighth.
Fort Wayne threatened late in the eighth when Costello walked and Kai Roberts singled, but a trio of strikeouts ended the frame. Wells finished with two hits, Roberts singled, walked, and stole a base, and Costello chipped in an RBI, a walk, and a steal.
Starter Will Varmette worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, with one walk and four strikeouts. Johan Moreno followed with 2 1/3 scoreless frames, one walk, and five strikeouts, and Josh Mallitz closed with two shutout innings, no walks, and three strikeouts.

After Dylan Grego singled to open the first and moved to third on two wild pitches, Kavares Tears launched a two-run homer to center, giving the Storm a quick lead. In the fourth, Cardell Thibodeaux reached on a forceout and later scored when Alex McCoy lined an RBI single to center. Bradley Frye was tagged out at the plate on the play, but the Storm added on again in the sixth as Truitt Madonna doubled to right, then scored on Frye’s single. Grego capped the scoring with a solo homer to right-center in the seventh. Rancho Cucamonga scratched across runs with a fourth-inning homer and an eighth-inning sacrifice fly.
Abraham Parra took over in the second and delivered six innings, allowing three hits and one run, walking one, and striking out seven to earn the win. Starter Tucker Musgrove worked one inning with one hit, no runs, no walks, and one strikeout. Adam Conrad handled the ninth for the save.
Grego went 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer, and an RBI. Tears finished 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs. Madonna posted a 2-for-4 night with a double and a run, and Frye added a 2-for-3 line with an RBI and a stolen base. Thibodeaux walked twice, scored once, and recorded a pickoff against him, but it did not deter the Storm in a 5-2 win over the Quakes.
