Matthew Lenz Padres Mission Contributor Posted October 29, 2025 Posted October 29, 2025 After letting go of Mike Shildt less than a month ago, the San Diego Padres have reportedly narrowed their managerial search to a group of finalists. Though it's not known how many finalists remain, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the team has completed a second interview with Albert Pujols. In addition to Pujols, they've previously interviewed Chicago Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty, as well as internal candidates Brian Esposito (bench coach) and Ruben Niebla (pitching coach). If this is, in fact, the group of finalists, it's worth noting that none of the candidates have prior managerial experience. Pujols was a candidate for the Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles, though he was ultimately not hired on as a manager for either team. On the other hand, Flaherty remains a finalist for the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves' open managerial positions. Who do you think the Padres should hire as the club's next manager?
