Missions Shut Out Hooks 1-0 Behind Gutierrez's Six-Strikeout Gem

The San Antonio Missions held the Corpus Christi Hooks to two hits in a 1-0 victory. Luis Gutierrez worked five innings, allowed one hit, walked two, and struck out six to earn the win without surrendering a run. Johan Moreno opened the game with a scoreless first, and Francis Peña, Andrew Dalquist, and Sadrac Franco each tossed a scoreless inning behind him. Peña and Franco each fanned two, and Dalquist added a strikeout, giving the Missions 11 strikeouts against three walks. Franco closed the door in the ninth for the save. The Missions scraped together just two hits of their own, but made them count. The lone run came in the bottom of the second inning. Luis Verdugo walked, Carson Tucker singled, Chris Sargent drew a walk to load the bases, and Kai Roberts grounded out to the pitcher, bringing Verdugo home for what stood as the game's only run. Tirso Ornelas contributed the other hit, a single in the sixth. San Antonio drew four walks, stole one base, and stranded 11 runners. The bullpen and Gutierrez combined for the shutout, making the single run hold up. Corpus Christi collected just two hits, both singles. The Missions improved behind their pitching depth and tight, timely execution against the Hooks.
