Tirso Ornelas powered El Paso with a pair of two-run shots, and the Chihuahuas held off Reno for a 9-7 win at Greater Nevada Field. Ornelas homered to right in the second after Nate Mondou’s leadoff single, then left the yard again in the third following a Mondou walk, giving him four RBIs on a 2-for-5 night.
Mondou set the tone all evening, going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs, and an RBI. After Raul Brito and Alek Jacob covered the middle frames, Sean Reynolds handled the eighth, and Ron Marinaccio closed the ninth for his fifth save despite a run, recording one strikeout.
Acuna’s Three Hits, Fifth-Inning Push Not Enough For Missions In Tulsa
Box Score
San Antonio fell 8-5 at ONEOK Field despite a 12-hit night led by Francisco Acuna. The shortstop went 3-for-4 with two runs, a walk, and an RBI, sparking a middle-inning surge that briefly erased an early deficit. Tulsa jumped ahead with four in the third, but the Missions answered in the fourth as singles from Marcos Castañon, Albert Fabian, and Jacob Campbell put two on the board, and Damon Dues added an RBI fielder’s choice. An inning later, Devin Ortiz doubled, Acuna lined an RBI single, a passed ball moved him up, and Romeo Sanabria tied it with a run-scoring single.
A daring attempt to score in the third turned into a foul-fly double play at the plate, then Tulsa moved back in front with two in the sixth. San Antonio pulled within one late when Dues reached on a fielder’s choice in the eighth for his first Double-A RBI, but Tulsa countered with two in the bottom half.
Starter Victor Lizarraga worked three innings, allowing four runs on five hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. Ryan Och followed with two innings, one hit, no walks, and two strikeouts. Misael Tamarez added 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, and Garrett Hawkins handled the eighth.
