The San Diego Padres face the widest range of outcomes at the deadline, with their clearest need being controllable starting pitching for a rotation that has nothing reliable locked in beyond this season. Complicating things is a thin farm system, meaning any pitching help likely comes at the cost of trading from the big league roster rather than the minors. That reality puts their best trade chip, an elite reliever, squarely in play, since moving him could be their most realistic path to landing a controllable arm for the rotation.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com is reporting that the Milwaukee Brewers have had talks regarding San Diego Padres reliever Mason Miller. Of course, they are not the only suitor, as the New York Yankees have also been heavily tied to the elite closer. However, the Brewers may be able to offer the best prospect package for the 27-year-old's services.

Let's assume Miller will be dealt. What trade partner would you like to see the Padres brass engage with to ensure the best prospect package? Join the conversation in the comments!
