Padres In The Market For Giants' Robbie Ray

Deadline day has arrived and the San Diego Padres have yet to make a move, but you know that will change by the 3 p.m. PT deadline.

The biggest need is a starting pitcher and the Padres are looking at a pitcher who just shut them down: San Francisco Giants left-hander Robbie Ray. Joel Sherman of the New York Post said the 2021 AL Cy Young Award winner is of interest to the Padres.

That move would certainly make sense, especially after Ray stifled the Padres for six innings in Thursday's series opener, allowing one run and striking out six. Other contenders will be after Ray as well, so it could become a bidding war.

Ray has a 4.36 FIP (3.08 ERA) with an 11.1% walk rate and 20.9% strikeout rate in 22 games this year.
