Padres Will Host NL Wild Card Series Against Cubs

The unthinkable has become a reality. The San Diego Padres will be hosting the first round of the MLB postseason at Petco Park.

That came to fruition as the Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-7 Saturday, clinching the No. 1 NL wild card. The Padres, who wrapped up a playoff berth Thursday vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, will face the Chicago Cubs in the best-of-three NL Wild Card Series, which will be Tuesday, Wednesday and, if necessary, Thursday at Petco Park.

The winner of the Padres-Cubs series will face the Milwaukee Brewers, who have the best record in MLB at 102-59. The Padres and Cubs met in last's NL Wild Card Series at Wrigley Field, with Chicago winning in three games.

The D'backs will still have something to play for Sunday as they are one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the final NL wild-card spot, with Arizona holding the tiebreaker. Whichever team gets that spot will face NL East champion Atlanta in the other NL Wild Card Series.
