Steve Drumwright Padres Mission Editor Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago One of the members of the San Diego Padres' coaching staff is getting a promotion—from another NL West team. Longtime Padres bullpen coach Ben Fritz is being hired as the Arizona Diamondbacks' pitching coach, according to a report Friday by Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Fritz replaces Brian Kaplan, whose contract expired after the season and was not retained. Fritz, a right-hander who was a first-round draft choice by the Oakland A's out of Fresno State in 2002, has been the Padres' bullpen coach for the past seven seasons and a coach in the Friars' system since 2015. Lin also reported that Fritz was up for the Colorado Rockies' pitching coach vacancy. Working with pitching coach Ruben Niebla, Fritz's bullpen has posted the seventh-best ERA since 2020 and third-highest fWAR. View full rumor
